  1. Members benefit from exchanges at the annual conference, which takes place in the fall (usually early November) and is held at a different Canadian university or college each year. The sessions and panels address issues and subjects in art history, theory and practice from a variety of methodological approaches. Papers may be given in French or English. Funding is provided by membership and conference fees, in part by federal agencies and by the institution(s) that host the conference. Important support also comes from the volunteer work of members.
  2. Members receive a subscription to RACAR, a refereed journal of art historical research that is published in one double or two single issues annually. RACAR publishes articles of substantial historical scholarship and critical analysis, and, as the only general art history journal in Canada, addresses all areas of the discipline.
  3. Subscription to the Bulletin e-newsletter which provides information four times a year on upcoming conferences and employment opportunities, issues of professional interest and news of members' scholarly and exhibiting activities.
  4. Access to the members-only pages of this website. Services include a messages page, postings of employment opportunities, the members Email Directory and the journal on-line.
  5. Institutional Members benefit from free advertising on the website for positions available and access to the Early Notification service of positions available sent via email to members.

Travel subsidy Information

UNIVERSITIES ART ASSOCIATION OF CANADA

SUPPORT FOR CONFERENCE RELATED TRAVEL

History of Art: Very limited funds are available for partial support of travel expenses to the Annual Conference for participants who are UAAC members in good standing in the following categories: graduate students, independent scholars and sessionals. Especially available for those with no other source of funding.

Studio: Sometimes very limited funds from the Canada Council for travel expenses are available to studio participants who are UAAC members in good standing. In every case, original receipts must be submitted with the application.

The travel fund is reserved in the first instance for graduate students presenting at the conference.  Normally, awards are prioritized according to the distance one has to travel.  Since the demand on our travel budget is very high, we can only reimburse people for part of their actual travel costs: bus, train, airfare, etc., and we regret that we cannot pay for accommodation and lodging. Please fill out the form below, attach your original travel receipts and send them to Catherine Harding by regular mail or courier (not fax, and not email) as soon as possible after the conference. Processing reimbursements usually requires at least one month for everyone to submit their applications for travel funding.
